With departure from Funchal, the green circuit travels through some of the Madeira island mountains. Going up to Vale Paraíso towards Pico do Areeiro, at 1818 meters altitude where you may enjoy a fantastic view over the island central range.
Moving down the mountain enjoy and breath in the fresh air from Laurissilva forest (UNESCO world heritage), passing between a tree tunnel that will lead you to Ribeiro Frio where you can appreciate the trout nurseries and the forest park.
Continuing along the beautiful road that surrounds the mountain up to the north coast, enjoy the natural beauty of Porto da Cruz, where you can walk and explore the promenade with sea view to alagoa beach and taste the famous rum from Engenho Velho do Norte (old distillery).
Going up the hill again, towards to Portela balcony, where posteriorly we will start descending to Machico, the island second biggest city, where you can see a huge valley studded with houses, that ends in a big bay, with a sand beach and where the discoverers anchored when the island was discovered.
We suggest that you join our local people, using your tickets in our public buses (EACL), that circulate between Funchal and Caniço (and vice versa). The ticket is valid throughout the day you make the tour with Madeira Sightseeing.
